I suspect the reasons some people with autism have issues with bowel and or bladder control are related to a variety of potential wiring problems - delayed processing, confusion about what the feelings are, difficulty with executive function etc. Too many possibilities to generalize! There was potty time at the top of each hour, a potty next to his bed at night, and some wet pants. This was backed up with positive reinforcement, and a potty book which he enjoyed. It took about three days to get the got the hang of it.

He eventually decided he just wanted to go on the toilet like a grown up, reading stories on the loo helped, he'd go choose which one he wanted then whilst he sat on the loo we'd read a story.
