Notchy gearbox
WebJan 24, 2024 · The gearbox is notchy when shifting 1->2, 2->3, 3->4 and 5->6. The worst is the transition 1->2. I changed the oil twice. First time, the oil definitely wasn't looking good. Second time it was ok. After 500 km the shifting is still the same and I consider replacing the gearbox. I heard there is a big junkyard in Poland. WebMay 8, 2015 · have a f55 cooper SD - definitely notchy... but clean and precise which is the key thing. I can remember driving a totally awful vauxhall corsa rental for a few weeks. This was also notchy, but in a bad way - you had to get the clutch and gear shift exactly spot on for the car otherwise if felt like you were crunching the gear lever into place ...

Once warm they were fine, but worrying mine may need attention. As its not difficult to engage, but you do need to engage slowly when stone cold, otherwise it does crunch a tad.
